3 Cosmetic Dentistry Trends to Improve Your Smile

Posted on: 5 October 2016

If you want to improve your smile, you should make sure that you are aware of the trends that are currently occurring within the field of cosmetic dentistry. One of these trends may be just the thing that you need to fix up your smile.

#1: 3-D Printing

It seems like numerous industries are embracing the trend of 3-D printing, and cosmetic dentistry is one of them. Right now, 3-D printers that are capable of creating perfect replacement teeth are just hitting the market. Currently, these printers and technology are very expensive and are being used by very few dentistries; however, in a few years, when the technology becomes more common, it should be easy to find a cosmetic dentist in your area who is using 3-D printing technology to create custom and flawless-looking replacement teeth.

#2: Visual Effects Orthodontics

Another option that is available to you right now are visual-effect orthodontics. It used to be that you could only obtain orthodontics in order to adjust your teeth for dental-health reasons, and the field of orthodontics was mainly focused on providing that service to teenagers.

Nowadays, you can obtain orthodontic treatment for purely aesthetic reasons. You don't even have to get traditional metal braces; you can get braces that are harder to spot and see. Braces for aesthetic reasons usually work faster than those used for dental-health reasons, like most adolescents use.

#3: Porcelain Veneers

Finally, the technology behind porcelain veneers also continues to advance. If you were to go to your dentist and require veneers, you would most likely first be pointed toward receiving a professional whitening treatment. Over the years, professional whitening treatments have continued to advance so much that they can now actually bring your teeth back to a high level of whiteness. Often, veneers are not even needed after you have undergone professional whiting. If you do choose to go with veneers, you dentist can create partial veneers that only cover the teeth that professional whitening didn't work on.

If you are not happy with how your teeth look, sit down with your dentist and have a conversation about what types of cosmetic dentistry may work best for you. If you are looking to just brighten up your smile, professional whitening or porcelain veneers are a good choice. If you are looking to change the shape of your teeth and how they look inside of your mouth, orthodontics or 3-D printing  may be a better choice for you.
