Braces And Date Night: A Few Tips

Posted on: 26 January 2016

If you have a date scheduled with someone special, you might be looking forward to an upcoming date night. Unfortunately, you might be worried about how your braces will affect your date. If you follow these simple tips, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Take Precautions Against Braces Pain

The last thing that you probably want to deal with during your date is braces pain. That would really get in the way of a good time! Add wax to your braces, if necessary, to help prevent mouth sores or discomfort. If you are dealing with pain in the days before your date, schedule an appointment with your orthodontist to take care of the problem so that you'll have one less thing to worry about when you're trying to spend time with that special someone.

Be Careful What You Eat

It's a good idea to be careful about what you order when you are on your date. You probably already know that you should avoid sticky, chewy or overly hard candies or other foods while you have braces, and you should make an extra effort to avoid these things if you don't want to get stuck in an embarrassing situation when you're trying to have a good time. If you're heading to the movies, you'll want to avoid certain candies, and you'll also want to avoid popcorn if you don't want to end up with kernels stuck in your braces. Instead, consider soft-baked cookies or ice cream if they are available. If not, a hot dog can be a good choice. You can also order a slice of pizza, but be careful about the crust--you may want to skip that part if it's too hard.

Clean Them Quickly After Your Meal

Keep a travel-sized bottle of mouthwash in your pocket or purse, and consider slipping off to the bathroom after you eat. This will give you a chance to check for anything that might have gotten stuck in your braces, and you can use your mouthwash to get rid of any food debris and to freshen up your breath, too

There are enough things to be nervous about on date night, and you shouldn't have to worry about your braces, too. Luckily, if you follow these tips, you should be able to focus on the fun of your date instead of on the aggravation that can go along with having braces.
